The Industrial Technology Department is a supporting enhancement to the overall educational process of G.C.H.S. The variety of skill development opportunities offered will serve as a pillar of strength for future learning and job application growth. Each Industrial Technology program provides a one semester, 90 hour introductory course of training, and is taught by a full time instructor. These preparatory courses are comprehensive and are an excellent way for interested students to become involved in new and exciting fields of technology.
Advanced program offerings are available by a “Permit Only” basis; a typical graduating senior will earn two years of training in a chosen field, plus optional college credit through the “Dual Credit Program” offered by local colleges. A typical program completer will have a minimum of 800-1,000 hours of “hands-on” technical training. This represents an outstanding cluster of comprehensive preparation potential for one to begin a post secondary career at a job, college, or apprenticeship school offering.
Since students will be exposed to an applicable blend of tangible and intangible skills, combined with approved academic courses of study, each trainee will build a foundation able to support a lifetime of additional learning. Industrial Technology training is a must if we are to demonstrate the performance necessary for our students to compete in a global economy. Students must be aware of trends, tasks, ways, and means of safe operation common in the workplace. Students must be able to communicate effectively, whether written or verbal, as they will continue to be required to work in concert with others in team workplace activities.
We understand, if we are seriously concerned for our students and their future preparedness, we must systematically continue to identify areas of needed improvement and focus specific emphasis toward providing the mix of “tools” necessary for the student to keep abreast, individually and collectively with personnel and equipment upgrades, which measure up to required standards, together we will help ensure a brighter future for all of our students.
