Granite City CEO Shark Tank Competition



Congratulations to senior Toby Jones for winning $200 and first place in our CEO Shark Tank competition. Toby is the CEO of Flippin' Lures and he hand crafts different types of lures for bass fishing. Jade Heuer, the CEO of Glad Rags by Jade, won 2nd place and $150. View and purchase her glad rags on Third place was won by Logan Smith, CEO of Gust Guitars. His guitars and amplifiers are unique and made from cigar boxes.

This event was sponsored by the Metro East Small Business Development Center at SIUE and hosted at Chestnut Health Systems.Thank you to the following people for sharing your morning with CEO and judging our young entrepreneurs:

GC 2018 GCHS Homecoming!!

Granite City High School's 2018 Homecoming Events begin on Thursday, October 4th with the parade and powderpuff game.  Homecoming will conclude on Friday, October 12th with the Tribefest after school.

GC Granite City High School Homecoming Dance

It’s Homecoming time!! Homecoming Dance tickets will be on sale Tuesday, September 25 and go through Friday, September 29 to all GCHS students. Tickets will only be available on these four days for the discounted price of $10.00. Tickets will be on sale during lunch hours in room 356. You must have your ID to purchase your ticket and must not have any obligations. You may only purchase one ticket unless you are escorting a GCHS Graduate. If you are escorting a GCHS Graduate, you must have the Homecoming Dance Permit signed and present it when you purchase tickets. This form is available in Mrs. Ames’ room, 356. Beginning Monday, October 1st through Thursday, Oct. 4 the price of the ticket increases to $20 and will be sold in room 356. No tickets will be sold at the door of the dance. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Ames. 

WBR Welcome Back Rally!!

School is back in session and it is time for the GCHS Welcome Back Rally!!

GC Spirit Wear Fridays

Friday's at GCHS are spirit wear days.  Students are encouraged to wear school colors red and black to school each Friday throughout the school year.

IPA Awards Illinois Principals Association Awards

On April 18th, 2018 Megan Keel and Samson Roberds were awarded the Illinois Principal Association Award.

SLU MaPP Challenge '18

6 GCHS students competed as a team against other St. Louis area schools in the MaPP Challenge '18 competition held on SLU campus Saturday, April 14th.

GCHS Renaissance hosted the 2018 Mr. Warrior Pageant on Wednesday, April 11th in front of a large enthusiastic crowd.  Congratulations to all of the contestants and the hosts on a terrific event.

Granite City High School Junior Kai Hale had the privilege of speaking at the Mannie Jackson Center for the Humanities Dinner.  The keynote speaker for this event was Human Rights Activist Naomi Tutu.

Swimmers Congratulations GCHS Swimmers!!

Granite City High School Swimmers finished 5th at the IHSA Sectional Meet competing in the 400yd Freestyle Relay .  Congratulations to Warriors Bennett Smallie, Matt Wilson, Dawson James, and Noah Cain.  A big shout out goes to Coach Linda Ames for her hardwork and dedication.

Warriors Prep Rally

Granite City High School hosted the #5Prep Rally on Friday 8/25 prior to the first home football game vs. Jerseyville.  

B. Griggs Congratulations Bryce Griggs!!

Bryce Griggs was selected as Madison County Career and Technical Education Student of the Year.  Bryce, a junior, is enrolled in Mr. Laycock's Vocational Machining program at GCHS.  He was nominated and selected for his work ethic, leadership skills, and positive attitude.  Outstanding job, Bryce!!!!

IL State Scholars Illinois State Scholars for 2019

Congratulations to Granite City High School's 2019 Illinois State Scholars!!!  The State Scholar Program recognizes students attending approved high schools for outstanding academic achievement. State scholar designation provides honorary recognition with no monetary award. Approximately the top ten percent of graduates from approved high schools are announced as State Scholars each year.

GCHS Football Warriors Earn a Playoff Berth!!

On Friday, October 26th, the football Warriors will travel to Batavia for an IHSA State Playoff game for the first time since 2011.  The Warriors finished the season with a 5-4 record to earn their playoff berth.

GCHS Incoming Freshman "Warrior Way" Open House

GCHS would like to invite all incoming freshman to our "Warrior Way" Open House event.  Everyone will meet in the main gym at 6:30pm and then have an opportunity to tour the building and meet the staff.  If you have any questions, please contact the high school at 618-451-5808.  We look forward to seeing you!!

Senior Recognition and Graduation

Senior recognition is on May 29th at 7:00pm
in the GCHS Performing Arts Center. 

Seniors that will be recognized will receive a personal invite. 
This recognition ceremony will include scholarship awards, departmental awards, and recognition's.  

GCHS Graduation is on May 31st at 7:30pm
on Kevin Greene Field at the Nelson Hagnauer Sports Complex on the campus of Granite City High School, weather permitting.  Gates will open at 5:30pm, seating is open with no reservations.


Arrowhead Incoming Freshman Scheduling Night

Incoming Freshman for the 2019-20 school year are invited to the high school cafeteria on February 13th, beginning at 5:30pm, to create a schedule.  We ask that families arrive at the following times;

A - H at 5:30pm

I - P at 6:15pm

Q - Z at 7:00pm

Anyone that is unable to attend at their designated time, may arrive after 7pm.  If you have any questions, please contact the GCHS office at 618-451-5808.  Any families unable to attend will be contacted by a GCHS guidance counselor.

The GCHS Marching Warriors ended their wonderful season with another Grand Champion honor!!  The Illinois Department of Transportation has created another set of signs to commemorate our Marching Warriors accomplishments!!

Cross Country Boys and Girls Cross Country Runners Advance!!

On Saturday, October 21st, the Warrior runners competed in the IHSA Regional at SIUE.  Both the boys and girls teams qualified to compete in the IHSA Sectional in Quincy on Saturday, October 27th.  Best of luck to all of our runners!!

SIUE Bi-State Band Festival
band The SIUE Bi-State Band Festival was held this weekend on the
campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  
Over 45 high schools and 250 musicians from Illinois and Missouri auditioned to participate in the festival. 
GCHS was represented extremely well with 16 band members selected to participate in the Bi-State Bands!
