MEET THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Guardians:
I write this letter to you with great excitement as the Principal of our newly developed Educational Support Services Center. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with an extremely dedicated staff and partner with you as an integral part of our school family. I have had the pleasure of meeting a number of you over these past two months and look forward to connecting with those of you I have yet to meet.
We are facing unprecedented times as we work through the COVID 19 pandemic, but we as a school district and specifically ESSC staff, will do everything possible to meet the needs of our students and families. With the Board of Education’s decision to implement full remote learning for the Fall 2020 – 2021 semester, we have diligently been working to prepare an effective remote instructional model, teacher’s will use to provide instruction. We as an ESSC family will need to work together as we strive to provide the best possible learning environment and opportunities for students and staff.
Please be sure to visit the District website, www.gcsd9.net to review the 2020 -2021 Return Plan for the District. The plan highlights many of the improvements to the remote learning environment your child will experience this fall. In addition, please make sure to check the website as we will continue to post relevant and current information.
ESSC students and staff in grades 7 through 12 will follow a rotating A-B-C schedule of classes, while students and staff in grades 5 & 6 will follow a daily schedule during the remote instruction phase. Students will login to each class following the Student and Staff Remote Learning Plan Schedule for each scheduled day.
This plan allows for more individualized instruction during online learning for each student. We have taken into account login issues or technical problems that may occur by providing the extra instructional time needed to address such issues. Furthermore, the extra time allows for necessary feedback that will lead to better student outcomes. Google Classroom and Google Meets are the main platforms teachers will utilize to provide instruction as they guide students toward their instructional goals.
Student Expectations During Remote Learning:
Login to classes at specific times for EACH class
Complete assignments in a timely manner (grades count)
Ask questions when unsure of assignment or how to utilize the technology
Access recorded lessons to review information
Participate in live instruction in a constructive and respectful manner (school rules apply).
Participate and engage in live instruction and non-live instruction 5 days a week Monday-Friday.
We are extremely excited to partner with you as part of the ESSC school family and look forward to a successful school year.
Don Harris, Principal
