MEET THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Guardians:
I write this letter to you with great excitement as we begin year two at Lake Educational Support Services Center. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with an extremely dedicated staff and partner with you as an integral part of our school family. I have had the pleasure of working with a number of you over this past year and look forward to connecting with those of you I have yet to meet.
We continue to face unprecedented times as we work through ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but we as a school district and specifically ESSC staff, will do everything possible to meet the needs of our students and families. Per the declaration from Illinois State Superintendent on July 9th, Lake ESSC will be providing daily, full day in-person learning. We have diligently been working to develop building procedures to keep everyone safe while at the same time, providing high quality instruction. We as an ESSC family will need to work together as we strive to provide the best possible learning environment and opportunities for students and staff.
Please be sure to visit the District website, www.gcsd9.net to review the 2021-22 Return to Learn Plan for the District. The plan outlines the mitigation measures put in place to protect students, staff and the community to the greatest extent possible.
This year the first day of school for students is Thursday, August 19th. Students will attend school in-person 5 days a week from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., with both breakfast and lunch being provided to students at school. I realize that the last two years have caused havoc on student’s attendance habits, but I encourage you to work with your student to develop a regular sleep schedule, in hopes of improving attendance.
Student Expectations for the year:
● Attends school daily and arrives on time
● Complete assignments in a timely manner (grades count)
● Ask questions when unsure of assignment or how to utilize the technology
● Participate during instruction in a constructive and respectful manner (school rules apply)
● Communicates with both home and school to ensure their needs are being met
We are extremely excited to partner with you as part of the Lake ESSC school family and look forward to a successful school year.
Don Harris, Principal
