Statement from Superintendent Cann

Oct. 13, 2020

The Board, Administration and Teachers have worked diligently in accommodating the learning environment during this COVID-19 crisis. The Administration has been formulating a return to in-person learning plan which was further refined tonight. This plan includes a phased-in approach starting as early as November 9, 2020 for Pre-K through 4th grade students. We anticipate adding grades 5th through 6th as early as November 30, 2020.

Because of the Holidays, semester change and secondary scheduling, grades 7th through 12th will not return to school until the 2nd semester; January 5, 2020. All parents will have the opportunity to continue remote learning throughout this entire school year.

Please know that the Madison County COVID-19 positivity rate, teacher availability and many other factors may dictate changes to this plan. We greatly appreciate your patience and will be providing a final plan, along with additional details very soon. We know you will have a lot of questions and concerns and we will be addressing them.

Please contact my office directly at

We ask for your continued patience as the plan is finalized and we truly appreciate those parents who came out tonight to voice their concerns.

Ms. Stephanie M. Cann, Ed.S.
