GCSD9 Parents, students, and staff,
Recently, serious allegations of misconduct have been made public and charged against a high school teacher. We, as a district, take any allegations by our students or staff very seriously, and address them immediately when they are brought to our attention.
All school district staff are by law Mandated reporters, which means that all District staff are bound by law to report any account of inappropriate behavior to either school administration or the Department of Child and Family Services. Our entire GCSD9 staff receive required training on mandated reporting every school year from the district. We are currently implementing a social/emotional curriculum called “Rethink Ed” which addresses many issues that our students may face across their developmental process in grades PreK-12.
As your superintendent, my primary concern is the safety, security, and well-being of our students; therefore, creating an environment for free and open communication is crucial to the reporting of staff misconduct. All students should have the confidence that any report they make concerning misconduct, will be taken seriously by staff members and acted upon immediately and aggressively to address current, as well as the prevention of, any future misconduct.
Please know that the School district is cooperating fully with the agencies conducting the on-going investigations. If any student has any concern (s) that need to be reported, please contact either your building administration or myself. My phone number at the Board of Education office is (618) 798-8902, or you can email me at email@example.com.
