GCSD9 Newsletter - March 2021

March 30, 2021 – PDF

Happy Spring Everyone!

As we begin to see longer days, and warmer temperatures, GCSD is experiencing good changes as well. We have even more students in our schools, more members of our staff and community vaccinated, lower positive COVID rates in Madison County, and a loosening of some state and federal regulations as they relate to COVID19.

Please see our own GCSD9 Covid-19 Dashboard to see our reduced numbers (LINK). This has allowed GCHS and Coolidge athletes to compete in sporting events, as well as celebrating Homecoming with a reverse parade and coronation. This NEWSLETTER (PDF) displays many of the successes our students have attained in the past several weeks. I am so proud of our students and their positive attitudes during this tremendously challenging time.

It has also been incredible to see our entire GCSD9 staff learn and grow together this entire school year to make sure their students received the very best they had to give. I cannot express how proud I am of their work and dedication during a truly unprecedented work environment. I have heard so many of our staff express their delight with seeing students back in their classes. We all look forward to seeing even more activities in the schools and more students coming through our doors.

We are also looking at summer learning opportunities and to next year with plans for in-person learning. We anticipate next school year is going to look much more like pre-COVID as far as schedules and activities. Upcoming guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education will direct us in what a remote or E-learning option may look like for students.

Thank you all for your continued patience and assistance as we transition our students back into school.

Stephanie M. Cann, Ed.S

Superintendent, GCSD9
