A Look Back at the 2021 Boys Volleyball Season

BoysVolleyball

Granite City, Ill., July 21, 2021 – The Granite City boys volleyball team took the court for the 2021 season despite the global outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and schedule restrictions set forth by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA).

14th-year head coach Dr. Justin Warren guided the Warriors to a 2-10 overall record in the shortened 2021 season. The Warriors picked up victories over Father McGivney and Alton.

QUOTE FROM COACH WARREN

"We did not win many matches as our record shows, but we got better every time we stepped on the court.  The varsity and junior varsity played their hearts out each game, set, and point. We had eight seniors this year and they will be missed.

We just did not get it put all together throughout the season. We have some returners coming back next year such as Lawson Kimble, Andy Burge, Kyle Burge, and Luke Stepanek. These boys are the future of our program.  We are looking forward to next year so we can continue to build an even better program."

YEAR-END AWARD

Team MVP: Owen Moran

"Owen went non-stop the entire year trying to pull us through the finish line on some wins," said Dr. Warren.
