October 15, 2021
Dear GCSD9 Families,
I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you again for your patience as we work towards resolving our bus crisis. GCSD9 is developing and promoting our “Will You Be My Bus Driver” campaign, including social media posts and our commercial created by our Communications Department. The success of this campaign resulted in increased media attention featuring an interview with an Illinois Central bus driver. This exposure continues to generate new driver applicants.
Our letter on Sept. 17, 2021, informed you that service to certain routes would resume as potential drivers finished training. At this time, we are thrilled to announce that effective Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, transportation will resume for routes 34, 40, 41, and 44 for Grigsby, Coolidge, and Granite City High School. If your student(s) is impacted, you will be notified by email and phone call. Bus routes are posted on the District website (GCSD9 Bus Routes). As more drivers become available we will continue to add routes until transportation resumes for all students.
Potential drivers who applied in the middle of September are completing the 5-7 week training process. Applicants who applied this week and complete the entire process could possibly be available in late November.
Thank you to all of the applicants in the training process whose efforts are helping bring us to a resolution. We would like to especially thank our loyal bus drivers who have been transporting our students throughout the crisis. They have gone above and beyond, worked longer hours, learned new routes, and shown dedication to our children. Thank you!
Once again, if you, or anyone you know, is interested in being a bus driver please contact Illinois Central School Bus at 618-797-0700.
Ms. Stephanie M. Cann, Ed.S.
GCSD9 Superintendent of Schools
