Dear GCSD9 Parents and Guardians,

We are pleased to share that the isolation and exclusion/quarantine period for students and staff members sick with COVID-19, symptomatic, or considered a close contact has been reduced to five days. *Onset of symptoms, or positive test result is considered Day 0 and does not count toward these five days.

Students returning to school after Day 5, will be required to wear masks, even outside, if applicable, for an additional five days. During these additional five days, breakfast and lunch will be provided in a location that maximizes social distancing.

On Tuesday, January 11, 2022, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announced that the agencies have adopted CDC guidance for PreK-12 schools that cuts the isolation and quarantine period. As a result, effective immediately, Granite City Community Unit School District #9 will implement the updated guidance from these agencies.

Today’s announcement does not change the state of Illinois’ mask requirement for anyone inside school buildings. The Governor’s indoor mask mandate for school is still in effect until further notice.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and teachers. It’s been an incredibly difficult year, but we will continue to push forward together.

Respectfully,

Ms. Stephanie M. Cann, Ed.S.
Superintendent of Schools
