Granite City, Ill., May 13, 2025 – Granite City Community Unit School District #9 is excited to announced a new chapter for Wilson 1-2 Education Center, as the school will be adopting the Wolves as its new mascot.
Wolves are known for their teamwork, loyalty, strength, and adaptability. These are all characteristics that can have a positive impact on school spirit, identity, and community. Wilson will strive to build a deeper connection amongst students, teaching them the traits of a wolf and how to apply those traits in daily lives at school.
Wilson plans to celebrate school pride by hosting “Wolfpack Wednesdays” as the school spirit day wearing the colors of blue and silver. They will maintain that the Wilson Wolves are part of GCSD9 and celebrate their part of the GCSD9 “pack” on Fridays wearing the district red and black colors solidifying the message that “We are One."
The district looks forward to embracing the Wolves' pride and spirit as Wilson 1-2 Education Center moves forward with this exciting change and becomes an elementary school for the 2025-26 school year.
