Every week throughout the 2025-26 school year, Granite City Community School District #9 will be highlighting a staff member for going above and beyond to give students a positive experience.

This week’s staff highlight is Lisa Jones.

Jones is a 5th/6th grade paraprofessional teacher at Lake Education Support Services Center (ESSC). She has been working in the school district for 19 years; nine years subbing and 10 full time.

Where did you go to school?
I went to Belleville Area College (BAC) and received my paraprofessional certification.

Family?
I have a really big family, we are super close and family is everything to me. I have a 24-year old son and he is my world. I have three sisters and one brother still with us. My siblings and our families spend as much time together as we can. We look forward to the holidays and any reason to have a get together.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to craft and make things, my sisters and I craft together. The majority of my free time is spent with my family.

Favorite food?
My favorite types of food are pasta and Mexican

Who do you look up to and why?
I look upon to my older sister Debbie. Fun fact, she was a principal in our district for years. She has inspired me and encouraged me to be the best me that I can

What is your favorite part about being a paraprofessional?
I love my job! I look forward to coming in every morning and seeing the kids. I really like working with my students; we do crafts, other art projects and spending time learning outside. Being able to support the students is the best part of my job.
